January 25, 2019 – Meet Dr. Chao!
Dr. David Chao is excited to be joining the PM Pediatrics team as a staff physician at its upcoming LA practice! Dr. Chao hails from the east coast (born and raised in South Jersey), but has made California his home for the past 3 years (and LOVES it!). He received his undergraduate degree in Honors Biology at Harvard College. He received his medical training at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, completing both a residency in General Pediatrics and a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine under the guidance of some of the pioneers in the field of pediatric medicine. He is board certified in both fields. He has a special interest in psychiatric and behavioral emergencies in children, having completed two years of adult and pediatric psychiatry training as well. Dr. Chao has published research papers and chapters in numerous medical journals and textbooks on topics related to pediatric emergency medicine and behavioral health. He loves teaching, and has helped to train hundreds of medical students, residents, and fellows. He has worked in both community and academic hospitals in both Las Vegas and San Diego. Outside of his clinical work, he also has a long-standing commitment to international health, having performed research and relief work in Japan, the Netherlands, Botswana, and Haiti. In his free time, Dr. Chao loves traveling, photography, scuba diving, cooking, camping, fishing, reality television, and his imperial Shih-Tzu, Ponchon. He is excited to be joining the PM Pediatrics team in California and helping to serve the healthcare needs of the families of Los Angeles!
